week2 What are the strengths and weaknesses of Petersons Production of Culture Persective on The Birth or Rock n Roll?

Richard Petersons production of culture perspective on the birth or the rise of rock n roll is broken down in to six different factors that has influenced and help bring rock n roll music about. These factors include law, technology, industry structure, occupational careers, organization structure and market. But i do think that with these six kinds of factors that there seems to be more weaknesses than strengths. As a theory it is quite strong because it makes sense and it give you a guide line or a simple structure to follow as to how rock n roll emerged. But what makes his theory weak is that it does not look or touch on the most important subject which is music itself. It also excludes the audience or the peoples views on why they liked it as well as what instruments are used to make it because overall Peterson is not interested in the creative side of it.

week1 what is popular music?

When defining what popular music is, it can be quite difficult to bring it down to just one particular definition. It is easy to say that popular music is any type or genre of music that is liked or admired by many people or saying that popular music is what is most successful in the charts. But this is not enough as we all have different tastes and enjoy various types of music. What you like may not be what other people like and that is what makes answering this question quite flexible. Although popular or pop music is a genre of music it still includes other musical styles such as rock, r n b, hip hop etc. Popular music can also be identified as the music and musical styles that are accessible to a wide audience and distributed through the mass media, basically music that sells.
